If I am French and that I exercise a declared professional activity in France or I have resided in France for more than 3 months , I can benefit from Universal Health Protection (PUMa) and, subject to resource conditions, from Complementary Health Solidarity .
Universal Health Protection corresponds to affiliation to the general French social security system:
- If I work, it is my employer who registers me with Health Insurance so that I benefit from PUMa.
- If I am a student, I register with Health Insurance when I register at the University or my School.
- If I am requesting my first affiliation with PUMa because I have resided in France for more than three months or because I am at least 16 years old, I must send a dedicated form to the Primary Health Insurance Fund in my department.
- PUMa does not cover all of my healthcare costs, except in exceptional circumstances, particularly if I suffer from a Long-Term Illness .
If I cannot afford to have supplementary health insurance, I can benefit from the Complementary Health Solidarity which allows me to benefit from 100% coverage of most of my health costs, either free of charge or for a contribution of €8 to €30 depending on my age, depending on my income:
- I can check if I am entitled to the Solidarity Health Supplement on the Health Insurance rights simulator .
- I must apply to the Primary Health Insurance Fund in my department of residence. There is a dedicated form for this .
- I have to renew my application every year, if I receive RSA or ASPA (minimum old age) my application is automatically renewed.
- If I receive RSA, since 2022, I can automatically benefit from the Complementary Health Solidarity. If I am a beneficiary of ASPA, a Complementary Health Solidarity application file is automatically sent to me.
If I am French and I am returning to France after a stay abroad, I can estimate my rights via the Public Service simulator : https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F32824
