If I am a foreigner and have the nationality of a country of the European Union , or that of Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland or the United Kingdom, my right to health coverage depends on my situation and the length of time I have been on French territory.
- If I have been in France for less than three months without working, if I am a student, or if I am a “detached worker”, I must be covered by the social security of my country of origin or the country of origin. the company that employs me. I can benefit from a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which facilitates the link between French social security and that of my country of origin. It will allow me to be reimbursed for my costs or, in certain cases, that I do not have to pay any costs. I am not entitled to French health insurance. If I have no health coverage and my financial situation does not allow me to pay the doctor, I can still access care in the Health Care Access Centers without having to pay, after meeting an assistant hospital welfare.
- If I work in France or receive unemployment benefits from Pôle Emploi, I can benefit from Universal Health Protection and, subject to means conditions, complementary solidarity health insurance.
- If I join my spouse in France who benefits from Universal Health Protection or I am a minor and I join my parents in France, I can benefit from Universal Health Protection and, subject to resource conditions, complementary solidarity health insurance.
- If I have lived in France for five years working in France, as a student or having resources or I have a disability recognized by the Departmental House for Disabled Persons (MDPH) I can benefit from Protection Universal Health and, subject to resource conditions, complementary solidarity health insurance.
- If I have been in France for more than three months and I do not work in France and do not receive any resources , I can submit an application for affiliation with Universal Health Protection in France and my file will be examined by the CREIC (Centre for Inactive European Nationals Cmuiste) who will decide if I can benefit from Universal Health Protection or if I must apply for State Medical Aid, because he considers that I am not in a legal situation on French territory.
