If I rent unsanitary accommodation (humidity, lead, electricity, etc.) which is dangerous for my health, I can force my landlord to carry out work to bring it up to standard.
I must make a request to the town hall to declare my accommodation unsanitary. For that :
- I send a registered letter to my landlord to ask him to do some work
- In the event of no response or refusal, I contact my town hall to report my accommodation as unsanitary housing. A municipal inspector will then come and assess the unsanitary condition of the accommodation and may possibly force my landlord to carry out work.
If my accommodation is declared unsanitary, I can therefore appeal to DALO to be given priority in accessing social housing.
I can get help with these procedures from a social worker or from the ADIL office in my department. The list of ADILs is available on the ANIL website and on soliguide .
⚠️ I cannot suspend the payment of my rent on my own due to unsanitary conditions. This requires the publication of an order prohibiting living in the premises. Paying rent (even partial) protects me from eviction.
