A GP is a general practitioner that I choose as my referring doctor, the one I see most often.
In France, it is obligatory for socially insured people – people who have rights to Universal Health Protection – to declare a treating doctor to Health Insurance.
My GP can refer me to specialist doctors depending on my health needs: I can ask him to refer me to a dermatologist if I have skin problems, for example. When my doctor refers me, I get better reimbursed than if I go without asking.
How to declare a treating doctor ?
To have a treating doctor, you must declare it to Health Insurance. I can ask my doctor to make the declaration of attending physician to Health Insurance.
How to find a general practitioner?
I can find a general practitioner in a health center or home on soliguide.fr or in the directory of health professionals set up by Health Insurance . On the other hand, there is no guarantee that the latter agrees to be declared as my attending physician, I must discuss this directly with him.
